Hohenstein announces ‘scientific’ sports bra fit test

Germany-based testing service provider Hohenstein has developed a scientific assessment method for fine-tuning sports bra support levels.

The new test has been designed to classify varying degrees of support under three categories: high, medium and low.

“Yoga and horse-riding require very different levels of support,” explained its head of clothing technology, Simone Morlock. “Our garment engineers have been studying the market and improving fit for decades.

“Knowing the target group – eg, intended use and cup size – is one of the most important factors,” she added.

Hohenstein’s system is built upon a three-dimensional torso, printed in-house at its own facility, created to test different cups and sizes through replication of breast form, tissue and movement “using suitable materials and customisable shapes”.

It not only analyses up-down, right-left and forwards-backwards movements, but also benchmarks its data against other bras on the market. This is intended to help partners determine movement-reducing fits, optimise patterns and, of course, improve breast support during exercise.

Importantly, the method still demands a fit test, however, “draw[ing] on a large pool of human fit models”.
