The company says it will be the largest hemp decortication centre in the Western Hemisphere and among the largest in the world.
The commissioning process marks the final stage before beginning commercial operations; it is due to open in the first quarter of 2024.
Panda Biotech executive vice-president Scott Evans said: “Each piece of the Panda Hemp Gin production line, including the three miles of overhead pneumatic duct lines, refining, blending, mechanical cottonisation, hurd bagging and storage, baling, and more, must be individually started, checked, balanced, and commissioned. Currently, all equipment is individually being brought online to be officially placed in service.”
Pakistan-based denim mill and manufacturer AGI and Wrangler-owner Kontoor have previously announced partnerships with Panda.
Panda Biotech has also partnered Oritain, which will help to trace the US grown hemp.
Panda is seeking famers to grow hemp feedstock for the 2024 growing season. It has created a pay-to-grow programme which includes up-front money and agronomy support.
