Under Armour agrees three-year Hemp Black deal
Textile technology developer Hemp Black has signed a deal to supply US sports brand Under Armour over three years.
Hemp Black, owned by Australia’s Ecofibre, is itself based in the US and makes its polymers and performance fibres from carbon-infused hemp. It also produces a water-based carbon black alternative called Eco6, derived from hemp stalks.
The agreement relates to yarns for Under Armour apparel, with the activewear company expected to provide as much as $4.5 million in financing for suitable manufacturing equipment.
“When Ecofibre announced our strategic review earlier this year, we advised that one of the key opportunities for Hemp Black would be to secure new performance yarn clients,” commented chief executive, Eric Wang. “The outstanding technical capabilities of the team enable us to work with tier-one clients on large-scale opportunities.”
