Injection moulding helps Nike reduce impact
Sportswear brand Nike has created a footwear foam it claims equips runners with higher energy return while offering a lower carbon footprint than Nike React foam.

By using an injection process, rather than through compression moulding, the new foam delivers a higher energy return without creating a higher carbon footprint.

It reduces the carbon footprint in a pair of midsoles by at least 43% due to reduced energy in the manufacturing process and was developed over five years to find a middle ground between performance and environmental impact, said Nike.

The ReactX foam will debut in Nike InfinityRN 4, combining the foam with a new Nike Flyknit upper that allows breathability, flexibility and containment with a supportive foam collar. The updated upper features increased volume in the toe, a midfoot support system and a water-resistant liner.
