Bio-based fabric fits the bill for cycling brand

Cycling apparel brand Le Col has used the new bio-based version of Polartec Power Shield fabric in four of the garments in its latest collection for road cycling.

Fabric creator Polartec launched this new version of Power Shield in late 2022, putting a renewable, non-GMO plant-based nylon called Biolon into the three-layer shell material. It has calculated that Biolon has a 50% lower carbon footprint than virgin nylon-6,6 and a reduced reliance on fossil resources.

UK-based Le Col has used the new version of Power Shield in its Hors Categorie Jacket II, its Pro Jacket, its Pro All Weather Jersey and its Pro All Weather Gilet.

The brand’s product developer, Hannah Greenshield, said recently: “We couldn’t be happier with the new Power Shield technology and the benefits it has had to our product range. Not having to sacrifice performance in the pursuit of more sustainable products is a fantastic result.”

Polartec’s international sales and marketing manager for cycling, Matteo Tolio, responded by saying that the fabric developer was glad to be able to live up to the high standards of “a brand whose focus is so strongly on sustainable performance innovations”.
