Velor introduces circular cycling jersey
Velor, a young eco-minded cycling brand based in Rennes, France, has released what it says is the first truly circular cycling jersey. It is made from former polyester kits recycled using a microwave-based technology developed by Gr3n, a Swiss textile tech company.

The two companies have worked together to build a circular, rather than linear, supply chain. Velor has set up a take-back programme with its retail partners, cycling events and its own online store. A first pilot enabled the brand to collect 300 jerseys. It is now seeking to retrieve 500 kg, corresponding roughly to 5,000 jerseys, by the end of 2024.

“We are proud to have reached this first stage of a plan that we had announced three years ago in our first video presenting Velor: that we wanted to build a completely circular brand. It seemed a bit crazy at the time, but with our partners, we see that it is possible,” said Mickael Jardin, a Team Velor member/co-founder.

Last March, Gr3n opened a larger demo plant in the Como region. Founded by Maurizio Crippa, its technology uses microwaves to break down polyester textiles back into the polymer's original building blocks.
