Circularity at scale is Athleta’s aim with Cycora
Fibre developer Ambercycle has announced that Athleta is set to become the first performance apparel brand to use its Cycora regenerated polyester at scale.
Los Angeles-based Ambercycle takes end-of-life textiles and uses molecular regeneration technology to develop Cycora yarns and fabrics for use in new garments.
A certified B Corporation, Athleta is clothing group Gap’s sports apparel brand for women. Starting from 2026, it will incorporate Cycora into its products.
At Ambercycle, chief executive, Shay Sethi, commented: “As the demand for circular materials rises, we are delighted to collaborate with like-minded brands in the performance sector, such as Athleta. Together, we are creating high-quality garments and driving forward the circular fashion movement.”
For his part, the chief executive of Athleta, Chris Blakeslee, said the brand is committed to reducing its environmental footprint by using recycled materials.
At parent group Gap, global head of sustainability, Dan Fibiger, said: “Ambercycle’s ground-breaking technology for transforming end-of-life textiles into new materials not only enables a more sustainable supply of high-performance fabrics, but it has the potential to cut waste and emissions and has the potential to advance circularity at scale.”
