Textile recycling start-up secures investment from Decathlon
Sports group Decathlon has become an investor in a Lyon-based chemical textile recycling technology provider, Recyc’elit.
Founded by brothers Karim and Raouf Medimagh (pictured) in 2020, Recyc’elit has developed a proprietary method for separating out the different fibres in textile waste to offer mills and brands recycled polyester, elastane and polyamide for use in new applications.
The start-up aims to have a pilot plant in operation in the course of 2025.
Decathlon’s director of alliances and new business, Franck Vigo, said the group believes it has a responsibility not just to find solutions for the textile waste challenge, but to help cultivate them, refine them and help them to have an impact in the market.
