Turkish group says it will license Carbios’s technology

Enzymatic depolymerisation technology developer Carbios has said Turkish polyester manufacturing group SASA wants to license its biorecycling technology.

This licensing agreement would allow SASA, which produces polyester fibre and yarn, to construct and operate an enzymatic depolymerization plant in Adana, Turkey. The plant would have annual capacity to process 100,000 tonnes of prepared polyester waste and make new polyester pellets, fibres and textiles from it.

The waste will come from various sources, including polyester textiles. The plant in Turkey would process waste that is currently not recyclable using conventional recycling technologies.
Carbios said this latest expression of intent to use its technology marked “another significant step” in the roll-out of its model.

Chief exectutive of the technology provider, Emmanuel Ladent, said: “We believe Turkey will play a pivotal role in the expanding textile market. Partnering with SASA, a leader in polyester production, is a natural fit for our international ambitions for licensing our biorecycling technology, and will contribute to a more circular and sustainable textile industry.”

For his part, the general manager of SASA, Dr Kemal Öz, said: “As a leading producer of polyester, it is our duty to pave the way in terms of sustainability and environmental responsibility. SASA needs to be a part of the recycling business and our partnership with Carbios reinforces our commitment to innovation to advance a circular economy for textiles.”
