US: Conservation Alliance readies ‘defence’ fund
The Conservation Alliance, a coalition of 270 companies that funds the protection of North America’s wild places and outdoor spaces, has set up a Land and Water Defence Fund, which will award grants to grassroots organisations.
Priority will be given to projects supporting priority campaigns, such as defending foundational conservation laws; protecting landscapes, rules, regulations and management plans previously supported by TCA; and opposing any proposed transfer of federal lands to state or private ownership.
Since its founding in 2017, the Land and Water Defence Fund has awarded 43 grants totalling $777,000.
These grants have supported conservation laws, including the Antiquities Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and Endangered Species Act. Key achievements include stopping the transfer of the Elliott State Forest in Oregon, public lands in Utah, and protecting six national monuments that were at risk of reduction.
Members include Patagonia, Keen, The North Face, Keen and Ospray.
