Smart textiles acquisition
Canadian smart textile specialist Myant has acquired two companies operating in the same field and based in Switzerland: Osmotex and Nanoleq. Terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

In the mid 2010s, Osmotex developed Hydro_Bot, an ‘electronically controlled breathable membrane’ that transports moisture to the outside of a garment using electro-osmosis. The two companies have been working together through a joint venture since 2019.

Nanoleq specialises in stretchable textile electrodes that the company said deliver high quality signals. Its ElectroSkin sensors are said to be effective without wetting and can be washed without loss of performance.

For Myant CEO Tony Chahine the acquisition of Nanoleq contributes to Myant’s “mission to transform healthcare by embedding intelligence into the very fabric of everyday life”. Osmotex, he noted, removes limitations of current textiles used for “smart wound dressings for fast healing or firefighter uniforms to prevent dangerous heat stress”.

Myant has now chosen Zurich as the base for its expansion in Europe.
