Coats’ 70% recycled components offer carbon reductions

Coats Footwear has unveiled three component products all made with 70% recycled content, based on its zero-waste Rhenoprint process.

The waterproof RP Evolve heel counter is made from recycled materials such as R-PET and R-TPU, and is ideal for running shoes, sports footwear and lifestyle sneakers, it said.

RP Flow toe puff is made from materials including R-TPU and R-acrylic glass, while the RP Wave toe puff incorporates R-TPU, R-acrylic glass and recycled bottle closures.

Gunter Scharfenberger, director of innovation and sustainability at Coats Footwear, said: “Designed to help our customers reach their sustainability goals in footwear manufacturing, these eco-friendly solutions reflect our dedication to driving meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future.”

The Rhenoprint process eliminates the need for any die-cutting or trimming, resulting in no waste. In addition, it requires approximately 30% less material than sheet stock.

Coats bought Texon and Rhenoflex component suppliers in 2022.
