Four trends for AW26-27 from Unitex and Louisa Smith

18/12/2024

Circular and warp knitter Unitex has worked with trend consultant Louisa Smith to put together a trends presentation for the autumn-winter 2026-2027 season.

Four trends will define the season, according to Unitex. It has positioned these under themes it has called Away Game, Incognito, Stimulus and Natural Ambition.

For the first of these, the focus falls directly on versatility and high-level performance. The trend includes bio-synthetics, dope dyes, and recycled ocean waste, offering “new flexibility and efficiency”, the company said.

It goes on to describe Incognito as “a trend that tricks the eye”, thanks to circular and warp knits that emerge “with built-in performance”. These mimic the traditional structure of classic wovens, Unitex said, but with the added advantage of comfortable fit in mono fabrics. The trend also includes biodegradable synthetics.

When it comes to Stimulus, the Louisa Smith and Unitex suggest that some textile trends will reflect an uplift in mood. For this, they highlight “gym-wear goes disco”, with a dazzling surface and permanent sheen for some performance apparel. Another key development is a new PFC-free yarn, which will create knits that let water bead off the surface and will work particularly well in clothing for winter running and snow sports.

Finally, Natural Ambition reflects the growing popularity of the ‘slow’ movement, emphasising wellbeing, self-care and mental and physical fitness combined. Products that will help deliver this include air-textured yarns to “deliver a rawness”, and organically inspired surface effects. Bio-based heat-generating synthetics will also feature.
