Legal success for Altexa over cycling apparel brand’s glove claims

Specialist developer of technology for waterproofing outdoor products through the direct, 3D lamination of membranes Altexa has won a court case in its home market, Italy, against the Giro cycling apparel and equipment brand.

At the centre of the court case were cycling gloves that Giro, part of US-based group Revelyst, presented in the Italian market with claims that they were one-piece and heat-bonded.

Altexa objected, saying these are the precise qualities it is able to offer customers through its HDry technology. Tests on the Giro gloves showed they had gaps between layers of materials where moisture can accumulate.

Concerned about the risk of these claims undermining consumer or brand confidence in the effectiveness of waterproofing technology in general, Altexa took the case to court.

Following the legal judgement, Giro has published the findings on its website for the Italian market. The brand also had to pay a substantial proportion of Altexa’s legal costs and received a warning about punitive financial penalties for any future breaches.
