ER Ocean Recherche presents new marine-derived fibre
French designer Eugène Riconneaus has been investigating the potential of algae to make a new low impact fibre and is now ready to supply fibre, yarns and fabrics. In just one year since its founding, the company said it had secured production capacity and expects to be able to cut costs in half when scaled.

“I couldn’t find next-gen materials that met designers’ expectations and could scale. So I studied the science to build them,” said the designer.

ER Ocean Recherche has developed SeiFibre, a manmade cellulosic fibre produced through wet spinning of a “nano-material extracted from algae”. The silk-like fibre is available as a yarn, SeiYarn. Supported by a network of 29 partners, it is now available at scale.
