Selenis to produce Kintra fibre

Portuguese polyester producer Selenis is betting on the potential of a PBS (polybutylene succinate) fibre developed for textile applications by Kintra Fibers. It is the group’s innovation arm, Texnascis that will be working on “bringing the material to commercial volumes”.

Kintra Fibers’ patented technology produces 100% bio-based and biodegradable PBS resin that is said to offer the “performance, scalability and processing compatibility” of conventional synthetics. The polymer is presented as a drop-in alternative to polyester resin and fibre extrusion. PBS is mostly used in packaging.

“This partnership creates a clear path to market,” commented Kintra Fibers co-founder and CEO Billy McCall.
