NatureWorks opens new PLA facility
Polylactic acid (PLA) producer NatureWorks has officially inaugurated a new manufacturing facility for its Ingeo-branded biopolymer in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. The biodegradable biosynthetic is made from renewable resources and the Thai site ensures access to regional sugarcane feedstock. The location is also expected to facilitate delivery to the Asia Pacific region where demand for biobased materials is growing, the company said.
The new facility has a capacity of 75,000 tonnes yearly and is expected to produce all grades of Ingeo, including fibres, mainly for nonwovens. Natureworks is is jointly owned by PTT Global Chemical (GC), a Thai chemicals company, and US-based agro-industry specialist Cargill.
