CovationBio to present bio-based stretch novelties

08/07/2026

Covation Biomaterials is showcasing its two new bio-based products, Xatryx and Sorona Elasterell-p fibre, at the Functional Fabric Fair in New York City (July 7–9).

Xatryx bioPTMEG is a bio-based polyether glycol made from corncobs, a renewable non-food agricultural by-product. PTMEG is a building block for elastane, and the bio version can be used as a drop-in replacement to the petroleum-derived version to reduce the fibre’s carbon footprint.

Commercial production is expected to begin in the second half this year.

Sorona elasterell-p fiber is a bicomponent stretch fibre made with 37% plant-based Sorona polymer. The fibre delivers stretch and shape retention and is targeted at activewear and athleisure.

CovationBio CEO Steven Ackerman said: “Functional Fabric Fair brings together the designers and developers shaping the future of performance apparel and that’s exactly who we built these innovations for.”

Covation Bio, originally the biomaterials division of DuPont, was acquired by Chinese group Huafon in 2022. Its main products are Sorona, a 37% plant-based polymer, and Susterra, a 100% plant-based diol ingredient used in footwear, outdoor apparel and performance gear.
