Non-elastane stretch at Little King
At Functional Fabric Fair in New York this week, Taiwan-based mill Little King highlighted a non-elastane stretch solution based on a PTT yarn, part of the polyester family. “It is a bicomponent yarn made from two different polymers,” Sam Kao, sales manager, told Sportstextiles. He likened its performances to those of other non-elastane stretch yarns such as Lycra T400 or CovationBio’s Sorona.

Mr Kao said that the fibre gave fabrics a firmer hand feel and offers a more durable stretch due to its high recovery. A fabric made from 50% recycled polyester / 50% PTT weighing 130 g/m2 will be lighter than an equivalent fabric made from elastane, he said.

Mr Kao sees a lot of potential in this stretch solution and said that Little King was developing a new version of the yarn for SS 2027 that will be suitable for heavier weight fabrics.

Another innovative functional fabric on show at the company’s booth was a special 3D textured knitted fabric designed to reduce cling.
