A climate-controlling Outlast polyester phase change material has been named in the top 10 in the second-layer category by judges at ISPO trade show (Munich, January 26 to 29).

Outlast collaborated with Portuguese knitted fabrics manufacturer A Sampaio for the fabric, which is plain outside and brushed inside.

A Sampaio’s João Mendes said: “The inclusion of Outlast PCM technology was of major importance for this award. Customers are showing enthusiasm on the possibility of using such intelligent fabrics in their product ranges.”

Outlast technology was originally developed for NASA to protect astronauts from temperature fluctuations in space and uses PCMs that absorb, store and release heat for optimal thermal comfort.

In November, the company launched climate-regulating fibre balls.

A Sampaio was founded in 1947, employs 2220 and has a production capacity of 600 tons per month.
