ICAC addresses declining cotton demand

José Sette, the new executive director of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), has said the most pressing challenge for the industry is the fibre’s decreasing demand in the face of alternatives.

“Cotton faces unique challenges among agricultural commodities that must be confronted in order to effectively shape our common future,” he said. “First and foremost, we must face the question of negative trends in the demand for our product.”

Mr Sette will speak at the ICAC’s annual meeting in Dubai in October, focusing on efforts to revitalise cotton consumption.
