Protestors target factories in Vietnam

Protestors in Vietnam have looted or set factories on fire in Vietnam as part of anti-China protests, according to officials there.

They are unhappy about a Chinese oil rig 140 miles off the coast of Vietnam, which they say is in sovereign territory. China says it is in its territory.

Footwear and textile factories have been affected, although it yet clear to what extent.

Taiwanese businesses have been caught up in the disturbances after reportedly being mistaken for Chinese ones.

Yue Yuen, which is owned by Taiwan’s Pou Chen, has suspended production in the country, but said there was no damage to its facilities and its workers were safe.

Some Taiwanese firms have spray-painted messages on the road and across their gates saying "We Support Vietnam" in an effort to distinguish themselves from Chinese enterprises, reports Reuters.
