Eight teams in all set off from Barcelona on the last day of 2014 to sail non-stop around the world, passing the Capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn, with the capes to port and the Antarctic to starboard, before heading back up the Atlantic Ocean from south to north to finish back in Barcelona again.
The race will cover approximately 26,000 nautical miles en route rigging with the highest performance levels and extreme reliability was required to meet the extreme demands of the conditions, Gleistein said.
It said it had chosen high modulus polyethylene Dyneema fibres for their strength, reliability and durability.
On March 9, the Neutrogena team was in second place.
