Swiss textile machinery maker Rieter has opened a research centre for spinning technology in China and claims it is the "most advanced in the world".

The centre is equipped with machines and a lab where fibre producers can test their products as well as training rooms and showrooms. Representatives of the Changzhou government and the Chinese textile industry attended the inauguration, which included a day-long textile symposium.

“The new spinning centre offers our customers not only a unique service, but also makes a significant contribution towards the further positive development of the Chinese textile industry,” said Rieter CEO Norbert Klapper.

Rieter has opened two factories in China since 2013 and employs a workforce of 5,000, about a quarter of whom are based in Switzerland.
