Patagonia develops ‘advanced’ baselayer
Patagonia has launched a baselayer blending merino and recycled-polyester yarns that it describes as “the most unique on the planet”.
Merino Air Baselayer uses merino from the grasslands of Patagonia, South America, using regenerative agricultural practices.
The wool is treated using an air-jet process that creates yarn of greater loft and insulation value than conventionally spun wool.
Using a computerised knitting machine, the lofted wool and recycled-polyester yarns are knitted into a seamless garment with less waste than traditional cut-and-sew construction.
Jenna Johnson, senior director of technical outdoor. “Merino Air’s high-loft, efficient wool construction and excellent fit will keep you warm outdoors no matter what you’re up to. It’s the most unique baselayer on the planet, made with responsibly sourced merino wool.”
