Shake-up at Asics is setting up a ‘global lifestyle division’ and hiring managers from inside and outside the industry, “regardless of nationality or location”.

Starting in September, the decision will lead marketing for Onitsuka Tiger and Asics Tiger, and a Center of Excellence will be established in Europe.

The division will be headed by the Torsten Widarzik, CEO of German fashion label CAMPUS, who will join in September.

Mr Widarzik was previously general manager at Levis Strauss in Germany and Switzerland, and brand director of Nike CEMEA.

Asics is also changing its footwear marketing division to incorporate design, led by Gerard Klein, who returned to Asics last year after seven years at Converse.

Motoi Oyama, CEO of Asics, said: "The restructuring of our global operations and the appointment of top talent as our new leaders shows our commitment to accelerate growth as a global sporting goods company. I am confident that the Center of Excellence initiative will enhance organisation's capacity and effectiveness, and lead us into the next stage of growth."
