Swedish government courts rapidly growing Organoclick

Swedish cleantech company Organoclick, the maker of a PFC-free textile coating, has announced a 46% rise in revenues for 2015 to SEK 30.5 million ($3.7 million), the bulk of which came from its ‘functional’ wood unit.

Fashion brand Fillipa K became the first to adopt its durable water repellent finish and has produced two collections using the technology.

The Swedish minister for the environment, Åsa Romson, recently visited OrganoClick in Stockholm to discuss a new Centre for Chemical Substitution that the government is setting up to encourage consumers to switch to environmentally friendly alternatives.

OrganoClick has conducted research in chemical substitution since the mid-90s. It said its scientists have observed nature's mechanisms and tried to mimic desired features such as water repellence, rot protection, flame resistance and strength using natural substances.

Mårten Hellberg, CEO at OrganoClick, told the minister: "There are often environmentally friendly alternatives to a lot of toxic chemicals but they do not live up to the same functional standards. We want to offer environmentally friendly chemical products and materials that are as good, or better, function as the toxic chemicals. Products must also be manufactured cost-effectively so that they can be sold at a price that makes sense to make an impact with consumers."
