The prototype, a pair of Levi’s 511 jeans, was created using a patent-pending recycling technology which converts consumer waste, in this case five discarded cotton T-shirts, into renewable fibre. Evrnu data shows that the process uses 98% less water than virgin cotton products.
“This first prototype represents a major advancement in apparel innovation. Although early days, this technology holds great promise and is an exciting advancement as we explore the use of regenerated cotton to help significantly reduce our overall impact on the planet,” said Paul Dillinger head of global product innovation at Levi Strauss & Co.
Evrnu hopes that the partnership with Levi’s will improve investor awareness and be the first step towards the future commercialisation of their technology.
