Sportswear manufacturer Puma has agreed a deal to sponsor the Barbados track & field team at the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The agreement with the Athletics Association of Barbados will see Puma supply performance race and training gear as well as federation apparel for the Olympics and the next two Athletics World Championships. The label already sponsors Barbados sprinter Ramon Gittens, who wore Puma sneakers as he won a bronze medal at the 2016 World Indoor Championships.

“There is a passion for the sport there that connects it with the other federations we have under contract and it’s a great addition for us,” said Puma head of sports marketing for running, Pascal Rolling, when discussing track and field in Barbados.

Puma already has several partners in the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas.
