Germany: Textilbündnis signs up for ZDHC list
18/07/2016
Head of the Textilbündnis’ steering committee, Dr Bernhard Felmberg, said on announcing the development: “As the list is well-known internationally and not restricted to the European region, it embraces the possibility of achieving comprehensive changes in production internationally.”
Supported by 22 leading brands, ZDHC says its “one clear goal” is the elimination of hazardous chemicals from the global textile and footwear value-chain. It views its MRSL, which it describes as an important step towards achieving its goal.
As the name suggests, the MRSL aims to restrict the use of hazardous chemicals in the entire manufacturing process. It goes beyond current global regulatory requirements and lists chemicals for which there are already safer alternatives available for use. It is, therefore, in the words of ZDHC “not only aspirational, but achievable for brands to adopt”.
