ZDHC partners with Chinese research body

The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme, which aims to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals from the textile and footwear value chain, has named the China Textile Information Centre (CTIC) as an associate contributor, further expanding its reach in China.

The CTIC is a state-owned research institution for China’s textile industry. It is managed by the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), with which the ZDHC held a joint conference on chemical management in November.

Earlier in 2016, CNTAC unveiled its Chemicals Stewardship 2020 Initiative, a framework aimed at minimising the effects of chemicals on human health and the environment.

“With CTIC joining ZDHC as an official contributor, there is increased opportunity for the harmonisation and alignment between ZDHC and CNTAC’s Chemical Stewardship 2020 initiative,” said Lydia Lin, the ZDHC’s Adia director. “This creates momentum for China’s domestic brands and manufacturers to join the hazardous chemicals control movement in China.”
