Another Puma football shirt loses its gloss

25/07/2016
Following the issues the Swiss national football team experienced with its Puma-supplied shirts at the 2016 European Championships, when seven garments ripped during a high-profile match against host nation, France, another difficulty has now come to light.

The brand has had to suspend production of a special third-choice shirt for German club Vfb Stuttgart because of technical difficulties with the finish Puma and the club wanted to apply.

Using a special finishing technique, the shirt is designed to have a shiny silver sheen. However, during Vfb Stuttgart’s preparations for the new season, Puma announced it will temporarily halt production of the new shirt, replacing it for now with a plainer grey top. It said the “extremely difficult procedure” it has been using to apply the silver finish has failed.

Puma will relaunch the silver shirt on October 1 and has said it will replace free of charge shirts that fans have bought so far.
