Puma celebrates growth and says Euro 2016 gave “good visibility”

Sports group Puma has reported sales revenues of almost €1.7 billion for the first six months of 2016. Adjusted for currency fluctuations, this represents an increase of 10% compared to the same period last year.

The company highlighted the Euro 2016 football championship in June and July, the build-up to the Rio Olympics and growth in its women’s categories as three of the mainstays of its growth over the period.

Puma shirts caused a degree of controversy at the European Championship; the Swiss national team experienced an unusually high number of rips in its players’ tops during a high-profile match against France. Nevertheless, Puma chief executive, Bjørn Gulden, said on announcing the half-yearly results: “We felt that our teams and players in Euro 2016 in France gave us a lot of good visibility.”
