The Vietnamese government will invest nearly $300 million in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue over the next five years to turn it into a garment hub, according to local media reports.

Plans for developing the region’s capabilities in garment manufacturing will focus on developing the domestic market as well as growing export markets. It will also target a boost in research, product design and brand building.

In order to ensure a reliable supply of materials, the province will work alongside representatives of Vietnam’s key economic zones to build a centre for supplying apparel materials. It would be set up in the Phong Dien Industrial Zone.

Nguyen Van Cao, chairman of Thua Thien-Hue’s People’s Committee, said the region was also considering the installation of a modern wastewater treatment plant.
