Covestro announces waterborne PU breakthroughs
01/09/2016
Covestro says its Insqin base technology improves manufacturing efficiency. It enables PU base, an important intermediate material for the PU textile industry, to be manufactured using waterborne PU. The company says it was developed with a focus on achieving softness and has multiple applications including garments, bags, footwear and furniture.
It adds that Insqin base reduces manufacturing cost as it can be embossed directly after production, removing the need to use release paper to bring in material effects. It can also utilize existing manufacturing lines and thus does not necessitate significant investment from manufacturers.
Covestro’s also unveiled two new products from the Impranil range. Impranil CIL is a new PU dispersion for textile coatings, which has been especially developed to enable the production of fine nubuck material. The company says the Impranil DLI dispersion enables excellent wrinkle or fold recovery in coated materials.
The products were presented at the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai (August 31-September 2). Covestro says China manufactures 90% of the world’s PU-coated fabric.
