He will oversee all aspects of the brand’s merchandising, including equipment and apparel for its global business units. He will also be in charge of establishing “seasonal product identities”, as well as helping to drive Black Diamond’s aesthetic and technology initiatives related to product creation.
“Robert is an intrinsic leader and a seasoned merchant who brings Black Diamond a host of attributes in product merchandising, design and development,” said John Walbrecht, president of Black Diamond.
Mr Fry was most recently global director of product merchandising and design at Columbia-owned Mountain Hardwear, a role in which he oversaw the outerwear, sportswear, equipment and accessories divisions. He was also a member of the brand’s research development department.
Prior to that, he was a senior product manager for The North Face, managing the global merchandising strategy for its Summit Series product line. This saw him work closely with leading technology suppliers, including Gore and Polartec.
