Outdoor Retailer organiser to seek new venue as Polartec withdraws too

Following Patagonia’s announcement that it is withdrawing its support of the Outdoor Retailer exhibition in Salt Lake City over a controversial proposal to change the status of an area of public land in the state of Utah, specialist textile solution provider Polartec has said it, too, will not return to the event while Utah is the host state.

Polartec said it had made the decision “in solidarity with Patagonia” and after “much consideration”.

Chief executive, Gary Smith, commented: “Outdoor recreation is vital to our existence, and public lands conservation is essential. We’re proud to join with those willing to invest in doing the right thing, in standing up for the unique and finite resource that is our public lands. It’s never been more important to demonstrate that collaboration and conservation, not domination and extraction, will determine the quality of our future.”

When sportstextiles asked Outdoor Retailer organiser, California-based Emerald Expositions, for its response to these developments, the company said: “Outdoor Retailer is committed to exploring options for a new venue for the show that aligns with the core values of our industry and meets the necessary criteria for a successful show.”
