Outdoor organisations plan march to celebrate public lands

Outdoor Retailer, Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), The Conservation Alliance and Outdoor Alliance have announced they will hold a joint march to the Utah State Capitol to celebrate public lands on the second day of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market (July 26-29). 

“The This Land is Our Land march at summer Outdoor Retailer spotlights that public lands across America are truly the foundation of the outdoor industry, providing incredible landscapes and waterways for people to come together and experience the awe of the outdoors,” said Amy Roberts, OIA executive director.  “We aim to communicate that America’s national treasures require investment and effective management today and for generations to come - and they must remain accessible for all Americans.”

The organisers of Outdoor Retailer announced in February that the events will take place in future outside of the state of Utah. Prominent exhibitors, including Patagonia, Arc’teryx and Polartec, have said that they would not return to the show while it is held at its long-standing venue, Salt Lake City. The move is in protest against a change that the governor of Utah, Gary Herbert, wants to make to the status of public lands.
