OIA urges its members to attend Outdoor Retailer
15/02/2017
The call comes after several leading outdoor groups, including Patagonia, Polartec and Arc’teryx withdrew their support for the event due to Utah’s efforts to rescind protection of an area of public land in the south of Utah, Bears Ears National Monument.
In a letter to its members, the OIA praised the likes of REI, Ibex and the North Face, which have committed to the event in the interests of “industry unity”. It added that boycotting the show would have a “significant negative impact” on small- and midsize brands, speciality retailers and non-profit organisations.
It also reaffirmed its belief that the industry has a better chance of having its voice heard if all companies are pulling in the same direction.
“We are working tirelessly with Outdoor Retailer to select a more appropriate venue for future shows, but we are committed to doing the proper due diligence. Thank you for your patience, your passion and your unwavering commitment to one another,” the letter concluded.
