REI grew in 2016 despite "challenging landscape"
Outdoor clothing and equipment co-operative REI announced it achieved revenue of $2.56 billion in 2016, a 5.5% increase on the previous year.

Jerry Stritzke, president and CEO of REI, said the brand had had another goods year despite a “challenging retail landscape”.

The company also revealed that it had established partnerships with 66 outdoor brands in 2016 to advance product sustainability. It also gave more than 1 million products a “second life” through used gear sales, repair workshops and gear swaps.

REI has recently opened a new distribution centre in Arizona, which is the first in the US to achieve Net Zero Energy status, which means the energy used by the site is equal to the amount of renewable energy created there.
