Flat knitting machine manufacturer Shima Seiki has announced a change in its leadership, with Mitsuhiro Shima taking over from his father Masahiro Shima as president of the company.

The decision was made at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting on June 28. Shima Seiki described it as a “strategic move to further strengthen and improve its management system”.

Masahiro Shima, who founded the company in 1962, will become chairman of the board of directors.

His son, Mitsuhiro, joined Shima Seiki in 1987. He became a director in 2002, and an executive director in 2007. Prior to becoming vice president in 2012, he had been in charge of system development, machinery production, material purchasing and corporate planning.
