Garneau’s shoe technology wins Eurobike Award

Quebec-based cycling apparel brand Garneau has been handed a Eurobike Award at the 2017 Eurobike exhibition in Friedrichshafen (August 30-September 2).

It has been recognised for a new patent-pending shoe technology that it calls X-Comfort Zone. The technology, which will be available on five footwear models in 2018, allows a shoe adapt to the anatomy of different feet.

It features a ventilated elastomer-spandex insert that is bonded to the outside the shoe. This is able to expand by up to 5mm. Garneau has said this allows for a “dynamic, non-constricting fit” that accommodates the natural toe splay of the foot, improving power, increasing comfort and reducing the risk of injury.

The technology was rated ‘outstanding’ by the Eurobike award jury in the following criteria: degree of innovation, choice of materials and added value.

Explaining its decision, the jury said: “We like the greater comfort and freedom in critical zones offered by these shoes. A range of adapters allow adjustment to different feet geometries and where pedal pressure makes the foot wider.”
