Honduras seeks investors for textiles and apparel industry

The government of Honduras has invited potential investors to explore opportunities in the country’s textiles and apparel industry. Incentives, such as the waiving of taxes and government subsidies for new employee training, are being offered to encourage foreign companies to invest.

It forms part of the Honduras 2020 initiative, a project that aims to make the Honduran textile sector more sustainable. The government has invested $3.4 billion in the project.

“Textiles and apparel industry investment represents a great socioeconomic impact for both parties,” the initiative’s creators have said. “The country where the investment takes place is provided with employment opportunities that reduce unemployment percentages and investors are granted the benefit of improving their performance margins since their costs diminish due to highly productive labour force.”

The Honduras 2020 project wants to establish the country as a leading exporter of textiles to the US and Europe. It is targeting exports of $7.4 billion to these two regions in the future.
