UK textile makers report 25% rise in production

04/01/2018
A survey of 100 UK textile manufacturers has shown that half reported an increase in turnover for 2017 compared with the year before and production rose by an average 25%.

The falling pound helped exporting businesses, with one reporting the exchange rate led to a 30% rise in turnover.

When asked how confident they felt for 2018 on a scale of one to five, the average score was 3.2.

Kate Hills, founder and CEO of Make it British, which conducted the survey, said: “This reveals that 2017 has been another great year for the sector. There is increased interest from overseas and more companies are looking to source locally. As a result, more factories are opening or working longer hours and taking on apprentices to keep up with demand.”
