Novel knitting process for next-generation Flyknit
Nike has claimed a “major advancement” in how its Flyknit shoes are made, using a new knitting process that mimics the shape of the foot.

The original is made by knitting a flat upper, which is then attached to a midsole to create the shape of the shoe.

The updated version creates a new shape that then goes through a thermoforming process to provide shape and support underfoot.

Nike says the result is a lighter, breathable shoe that offers a more precise, second-skin feel.

The Flyknit 360 construction will debut in the Mercurial Superfly 360 and Mercurial Vapor 360 football boots, available from February 14 on nike.com.

Nike Flyknit 360 construction will soon appear in Nike footwear across other sports.
