Copenhagen Fashion Summit to showcase sustainability solutions

13/03/2018
The organisers of the Copenhagen Fashion Summit have explained that the “urgent need to accelerate sustainability in the fashion industry” was the motivation for the launch of a new sustainable solutions platform.

The next edition of the summit, which takes place from May 15-16 in the Danish capital, will see the debut of the Innovation Forum, which will showcase promising sustainability solutions from across the fashion supply chain.

It will include a special ‘speed dating’ event with pre-scheduled business meetings between fashion brands and solution providers. This is designed to help small and medium-sized companies take the first steps towards improving their sustainability.

The Innovation Forum will also offer 15 new innovations the opportunity to pitch their solutions to participating investors and global enterprises interested in investing in new technology and solutions.

The innovations presented will include: Carbios, which recycles plastics and textile fibres using enzymes; Haelixa, which uses DNA to track garments; and Re:Newcell, whose technology can be used to turn cotton and viscose fibres into new biodegradable materials.

The 2018 Copenhagen Fashion Summit will take place over two days for the first time. It has been a one-day event since its inaugural edition in 2009.
