Adidas expects record World Cup jersey sales

08/06/2018
The chief executive of adidas, Kasper Rorsted, has predicted that the sportswear group’s football jersey sales in 2018 will be higher than in 2014, the last time the FIFA World Cup took place.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Russia on June 14, with the final to be held on July 15.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Mr Rorsted said adidas expects to top the eight million jerseys it sold in 2014, despite the absence of a number of leading nations from the tournament.

A forecast by German soccer consultancy PR Marketing has said adidas will sell around 10 million official tournament balls. Its offering for this tournament is the Telstar 18. Four years ago, it sold 14.5 million official balls. Mr Rorsted said the company would not give any forecasts about ball sales.
