Timberland appoints "true visionary" as new creative director
Outdoor brand Timberland has named Christopher Raeburn as its global creative director, an appointment that builds on an existing partnership between the two parties.

They first collaborated earlier this year on an apparel capsule collection that made its debut during London Fashion Week. It involved Mr Raeburn “remaking” vintage Timberland items into contemporary runway pieces. The collection included outerwear, pants, shirts and T-Shirts, with each item incorporating eco-conscious materials like organic cotton or recycled PET.

As Timberland creative director, he will work with the company’s global product, marketing and innovation teams to create footwear, apparel and accessories. His first collection will launch for autumn/winter 2020 and will include men’s and women’s products.

Mr Raeburn will split his time equally between his eponymous brand and Timberland. He will be based at his studio in London, but will travel frequently to Timberland’s global headquarters in New Hampshire, as well as to its regional bases in Switzerland and Hong Kong.

Jim Pisani, global brand president of Timberland, said: "Christopher Raeburn is a true visionary, who shares our ethos of responsibility and brings to the table a fresh, modern design sensibility. Together we will really push the boundaries of where Timberland can go as a brand, and we're excited to get started.”

For his part, Mr Raeburn said: "I see an incredible opportunity for Timberland to break out and put responsible, innovative design at the centre of the brand's creative strategy. It's an exciting moment to join forces with Timberland;  a company set to evolve following decades of good work.”
