Timberland to learn from VF on waste performance

27/06/2018
Outdoor brand Timberland has offered its regular quarterly update on the work it is doing to improve its corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance.

The company splits its efforts into three categories: product, outdoors and community.

In the product category, its latest report, covering the first quarter of 2018, revealed that 81% of the cotton Timberland used in its apparel was either organic, of US origin or certified by the Better Cotton Initiative. In addition, 96.4% its overall leather volume was sourced from tanneries that have a Silver of Gold rating from the Leather Working Group. Of its 381 factory partners, 99% met or exceeded its compliance expectations.

In the outdoor category, Timberland explained that its “landfill diversion rate” has risen to 75% from 54% and said it will continue to work to improve this by applying best practices from parent company VF’s zero waste facilities. It will publish its 2017 energy data in its CSR report for Q2.

Timberland describes service to the community as “part of our DNA”. In the first quarter of 2018, Timberland employees worldwide served 13,325 hours, double the figure of the same period of last year.
