23/06/2017
In the product category, the company said 87% of all the cotton it used in its apparel in Q1 was either organic, US-origin or Better Cotton Initiative certified. This is a considerable improvement compared to the 58% it achieved in 2016, and means Timberland is well on its way to its aim of reaching 100% by 2020.
Its targets for energy reduction and renewable energy, which come under the outdoor category, are now aligned with the goals of its parent company, VF Corporation. It aims to reduce its energy use by 10% by 2020 and have 50% of its energy procured or offset by renewable sources.
Timberland reports on the community work of its employees as part of the community category. It said its staff carried out more than 6,600 hours of community work in the first quarter of the year. Among the projects they contributed to were packing food for delivery to those in need in Taiwan, working in an animal shelter in Switzerland, cleaning an ecological park in the Dominican Republic, and helping out at a camp for children with chronic illnesses in Kentucky, US.
